Did you know that if you are 25 weeks + pregnant you are entitled to a one off payment from the government of £190.00? It’s called the health in pregnancy grant and the idea behind is that you use it for you and your babies health. It’s not means tested and the only stipulation is that you are under the care of a midwife or consultant. So if you haven’t already done so, speak to your midwife about the correct form to fill in. Act quickly though as our new Government has decided to cut this along with all their other cuts so you only have till the end of February 2011 to receive this grant.
Evidence shows that if you are well and healthy during your pregnancy then your baby will benefit from you feeling good. By full term, research has shown that a baby in the uterus is mature enough to be able to respond to maternal feelings with great accuracy and compose physical, emotional and cognitive responses.
So now you’ve got the money what are you going to do with it? Have you thought about using some of the money towards having a course of aromatherapy massages?
The benefits of massage are well documented. It is however important to ensure your wellbeing so before undertaking any massage therapy whilst pregnant make sure your therapist is suitably qualified.
So what can it do for you? Massage relieves stress. How many of us face those final weeks with a sense of the unknown or even fears? It relieves muscular aches and pains. Why not go and get that achy lower back looked at before you have achy shoulders too from breast feeding and carrying a new born baby. It helps with lymph flow and congestion. Carpal tunnel and swollen ankles can be really helped with a good massage. It can also help with fatigue and insomnia. Schedule your treatment for an evening and after go straight home to bed. It can reduce the onset of muscle cramps, particularly problematic in late pregnancy. I plainly recall leaping out of bed at 4am at the speed of a bullet with severe leg cramp after not being able to move much beyond the speed of a snail during my waking hours!
Or better still, enhance your massage with the use of Essential Oils. Find an aromatherapist who has experience with pregnancy massage and he or she will be able to attend to many more complaints and worries. Hormonal imbalances can be addressed, emotional well being restored and skin nurtured and moisturized. Mothers who experience massage during their pregnancy report a feeling of more relaxation and feeling better able to cope with their changing body and emotions.
Spend the money wisely and both you and your lovely new baby will reap the benefits. Seeing an aromatherapist can help you on your way to a less stressful and more enjoyable final trimester.
